Otley Cycle Club is pleased to be working with Chevin Cycles to put on a series of free, fortnightly rides for beginners, both members and non-members, starting Saturday, 23rd May. The rides will follow the quiet back roads from Otley to Bolton Abbey and back, a distance of around 23 miles.
Interested riders should gather at Chevin Cycles at 9.00 am for a 9:15 start. We are planning to put on a comfortable beginner's ride for newcomers wanting a taste of a club ride or for anyone that has lost fitness and wants to get back in the saddle again. We have an identical second ride planned for a fortnight later on Saturday, 6th June
The ride pace will be a gentle 10 – 12 mph depending on group fitness. This is a flatish route of 23 miles on relatively quiet public roads, along a popular cycle route from Otley through Askwith, along the river at Ilkley, on to Nesfield and Beamsley with a cafe stop at the excellent Abbey tea rooms near Bolton Abbey. Nobody will be left behind on the ride(s) which can be shortened, if needed.
Older children are welcome if accompanied by a a parent or guardian, but as we will be riding on public roads, we would like to restrict attendance to only those aged 14 and over.
You do not need any particular type of bicycle for the ride. Any roadworthy mountain bike, folder, hybrid, road bike or E-bike will be suitable. Please bring a correct sized inner tube if you have one. You never know!
Helmets are required on all club rides. Please make sure yours is in good condition.
You do not need specialist cycling clothing but do make sure you are reasonably waterproof (and warm in winter), have sweets (for energy), money for coffee and cakes and a full water bottle.
Otley Cycle Club operates a ‘try before you buy’ policy for non-members, so feel free to try this, or one or two other club rides, before joining.
The Club is very proud to celebrate its 100th birthday next year.
