Autumn Concert - Wolsey Orchestra (October 2026)
About
Following their hugely successful classical concert in the Burns Recital Hall earlier this year, the Wolsey Orchestra now moves to the larger surroundings of the Greenwich Hall for an evening of full symphonic music.Under the guidance of the exciting young conductor Dexter Drown and led by Dan Kent, the orchestra will open the concert with Sibelius' rousing tone poem Finlandia and the fun-packed Danzón No.2 by Márquez. But the highlight of the first half will surely be a performance of Benjamin Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra. Originally written to accompany a documentary introducing young people to the instruments of the orchestra, it is fitting that, on the 80th anniversary of it's first performance in 1946 and on the 50th anniversary of Britten's death in 1976, the orchestra will be performing this work by Suffolk's most famous composer in the stunning surroundings of the famous Royal Hospital School. And if that was not enough, in the second half of the concert, the orchestra will perform Sibelius' stunningly beautiful Symphony No.1 in E minor. Definitely a musical evening not to be missed.
Please note that seating is tiered, and accessed via steps.
A small number of wheelchair-accessible seats are available; if you require one of these seats, please book your ticket in the normal way and then inform the event organiser.
