Ropework for Hillwalking Leaders
About
To gain a T2 hillwalking permit, you will need to be able to use a rope for group confidence and safety on steep ground. This is a skill which many leaders struggle with, and a common cause of deferral on T2 assessments. This workshop is intended for all hillwalking leaders, whatever their level of ropework experience. The intention is to run at least three parallel sessions, with small groups of candidates and an experienced instructor for each group:
Group 1 - Complete beginners with no ropework experience. This session will focus on basic Mountain Leader ropework using only the rope.
Group 2 - Intermediate candidates with some ropework experience. This session will use additional equipment such as slings and karabiners.
Group 3 - Experienced candidates with good ropework experience. This session will focus on techniques from the International Mountain Leader syllabus, and will be particularly relevant for those taking parties of Scouts to the Alps this summer.
