Summer flowers walk - River, canal and brook
About
Flowers in bloom, trees with fruits and seeds, butterflies, dragonflies and young birds on the wing: July along the river and canal is full of life. Come and join us to take a stroll along the waterways in Lancaster for this gentle guided wildlife walk.
The route for this walk will take us along the river to Sainsburys, then joining the canal at Bulk and following it along to Aldcliffe. We will then follow Lucy Brook from Fairfield Nature Reserve through to Freeman's Wood, where the walk will end (near the Spar on Willow Lane). Please note that this is a 2.5 hour walk.
About River Lune, Lancaster Canal & Lucy Brook:
The two larger water ways encircle the city, both having had a significant social and economic history. Water is the life-blood of our natural systems and we will explore some of the plants most closely associated with them. Lucy Brook is a small water course that wends is way through two of our wonderful local nature reserves.
Session includes:
- 2.5hr guided walk, we will be looking at the plants and animals around us as we explore the waterways.
- Cost: £17.88 (inc. booking fee)
What you'll see/hear:
- A range of trees and shrubs in leaf/flower, plus understorey flora coming into flower.
- Resident and migrant breeding birds singing
What to bring:
- Binoculars, hand lens
- Camera/camera-phone
- Weather-appropriate clothing (e.g. rainwear or sunhat, etc. depending on the weather!)
- Drinks/snacks (and sunblock if sunny!)
