Summer Solstice 108 Sun Salutations & Breakfast
About
Join me in the traditional 108 Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar) to mark the changing of the seasons and to give gratitude for the sun's light & vitality. This traditional practice strengthens our bodies but also connects us more deeply to the rhythms of the universe around us - recognising the impermanence of all and the natural cycles of life. It is an opportunity to give gratitude but also to shed & release things & ways of being that no longer serve us. This allows us to move with grace, purpose & strength into the next season of the year.
Physically we are challenging ourselves to stay focused & present as we flow through 108 sun salutations. The repetitive nature of the salutations creates a moving meditation & builds our inner heat or agni.(fire)
Why 108?
Here are just some reasons.......
- In many traditions 108 is considered a sacred number, symbolising wholeness.
- According to Ayurvedic teachings there are 108 nadis ( energy lines) that converge to form the heart chakra.
- There are 108 mala beads used for japa or mantra.
- 108 is a Harshad number ( a number divisible by the sum of its digits) Harshad is a Sanskrit word that means "Great Joy"
After the we have completed our sun salutations, we will surrender into an extended savasana to allow ourselves to fully integrate our practice. This will be followed by a nourishing breakfast and herbal teas.
