World renowned period instrument specialist Melvyn Tan joins forces with Guy Johnston - winner of BBC Young Musician of the Year in 2000 - in a programme performed on an 1830 Stodart grand piano associated with the Mendelssohns in the Drawing Room at Ightham Mote. Come and experience how the music of the early 19th century was first heard in a delightful programme of Beethoven, Schubert and Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn.
Ightham Mote is home to the collection of the celebrated contralto, Mary Postans who sang at Queen Victoria’s coronation in 1838 and worked closely with Felix Mendelssohn notably premiering the oratorio St.Paul in 1836. Her recently restored scrap book which will be on display, contains fasinating insights into performing life in the early 19th Century including letters from Mendelssohn and concert handbills.
Wine and soft drinks will be served in the interval - included in ticket price.
