Waite Collective Balfolk - 20 September 2026
About
Live music, dancing, learning and community.Join The Waite Collective for a welcoming afternoon of Balfolk dance near Chester, featuring live music from Spider Shed Collective.
Whether you're completely new to Balfolk or have danced with us before, you'll find friendly people, great music and plenty of opportunities to learn and dance together.
No partner or previous experience is required – we'll help you settle in and get dancing.
Curious about Balfolk? Your first Waite Collective event is completely free. Why not bring a friend for their first visit too? Simply select a First Visit ticket when booking.
We'll begin with a friendly workshop introducing and practising some of the dances you'll encounter during the afternoon, followed by dancing to live music from Spider Shed Collective and singing for dancing from The Waite Collective.
We're delighted to welcome Spider Shed Collective, featuring Helen Hamilton (fiddle and viola), Mandy Pearks (piano accordion), Richard Benson (clarinet), Rob Phillips (melodeon and concertina), and Viv Midlane (guitar and mandolin). Drawing on a wide range of musical influences, they combine Balfolk favourites with their own original compositions to create a lively and engaging sound. Their sensitive, responsive style allows melodies, harmonies and rhythms to develop naturally, creating a wonderful sense of flow and energy for dancers. We're delighted to have them joining us for an afternoon of Balfolk dancing.
The afternoon includes:
• A friendly Balfolk workshop suitable for both new and experienced dancers.
• Live music from Spider Shed Collective.
• Singing for dancing from The Waite Collective.
• Tea, coffee, cake and fruit during the afternoon.
• Friendly dancers and a welcoming atmosphere.
After the official dancing finishes, The Waite Collective will be staying for informal social time. You're warmly invited to stay for another drink, conversation or a meal of your own choosing. Bring your own food, join our pizza order if arranged in advance, or simply stay for conversation and community.
