The Smith Quartet perform a programme inspired by minimalism - with quartets written by Phillip Glass, Gavin Bryars and Arvo Pärt created from the constant repetition of motives - something that is present in Stravinsky’s Three Pieces written in 1914. Stravinsky - Three Pieces was inspired by the famous vaudeville star, Little Tich - who grew up in Cudham, Kent and performed in many local pubs. The concert also includes a rarely heard Quartet by Germaine Tailleferre who was a member of Les Six - a collective of avant garde composers based in Paris in the 1920’s.
