Arvo Pärt bookends a programme of spiritual and sacred music and opens with Pärt’s highly evocative Es sang vor langen Jahren - a mystical love poem, and the Stabat Mater from 1985 written in his distinctive tintinnabuli style - arpeggiations of major and minor triads combined with ascending or descending scales. The programme has two short works by Deborah Pritchard inspired by the luminous painting Light of the World by William Holman Hunt and a new work by Rosemary Shapes Tickle, inspired by Malling Abbey.
