Gothic Heroines: A Loose Leaf Poetry Workshop
About
'You speak like a heroine,' said Montoni contemptuously; 'we shall see if you can suffer like one.'
― Ann Radcliffe, The Mysteries of Udolpho, 1794
Join us in the Café for a writing workshop themed around Gothic heroines.
Led by poet Jessica Sneddon, this relaxed creative writing workshop explores a cast of complex, wilful, intelligent and questioning Gothic heroines, and considers how Gothic writers created multi-faceted heroines that challenged gendered expectations and conventions of the time.
We will read a selection of excerpts from Gothic novels and poems together as a starting point for your own creative work. There will be a range of writing prompts and no previous experience is necessary.
