Young Handler Academy – Show Day at the Farm
About
Have you ever wondered what it takes to show sheep and goats in the show ring?Join us for a fun, hands-on experience where you'll become a young livestock handler for the day!
Working alongside our friendly team, you'll be paired with one of our beautiful sheep or goats and learn everything you need to know to prepare them for the show ring.
During the session you'll:
Meet your sheep or goat and discover their unique personality.
Learn about different rare breeds and why they're so important.
Groom and prepare your animal ready for judging.
Learn how to correctly lead and present your animal.
Practise your handling skills with guidance from our experienced team.
Build confidence working with animals in a fun and supportive environment.
Then it's time for the IOW Rare Breeds Farm Show!
Step into our very own show ring and put your new skills into practice as you show your animal to our friendly judge.
Will your teamwork, presentation and handling impress the judge?
Awards
Every participant will receive a certificate, with rosettes awarded for categories such as:

🏵 Best Turned Out Animal
🏵 Best Teamwork
🏵 Most Improved Handler
🏵 Judge's Favourite
No previous experience is needed—just a love of animals and a willingness to learn.
Suitable for young people aged 5–16 years.
This is a fantastic opportunity to learn new skills, build confidence, make new friends and experience the excitement of showing livestock in a relaxed and encouraging environment.
