Red sandstone has played an important part in the lives of people both sides of the Solway. Names carved on cliffs, attempts to reproduce fossil footprints in pastry, navvies constructing the viaduct embankment, ship’s ballast and the building of Holme Cultram Abbey. Ann Lingard, author of The Fresh and the Salt - The Story of the Solway, will tell stories about this colourful local stone.Date
