Low Fell - Establishing Upland Woodland
About
Buy Land Plant Trees CIC bought the Low Fell site several years ago and has since fenced the site and planted thousands of trees, without the use of plastic, intensive ground preparation or chemicals. Low Fell is located within an area of high rainfall, so as these trees mature, 158 acres of new temperate rainforest, upland heath, and other rare habitats will be restored.Learn how new woodland can be created without the use of plastic guards, the challenges involved with upland reforestation, novel fencing methods, and how the current grant system has been used to plant trees in a non-standard way.
This event is part of our series of field visits. They aim to bring people together to discuss, learn and ask questions about woodland sites in Cumbria. They are an opportunity to visit special places and to connect with others who are passionate about woodlands, forestry and trees! The events are open to all, but will be particularly useful to those working with or around trees and woodland. These visits have been funded by the National Lottery Community Fund.
