Lodge Castle - A New Nature Reserve
About
This new nature reserve in West Cumbria is one of Buy Land Plant Tree's latest projects. The 26 acre site had been transformed from rough grazing land to a thriving nature reserve over the last couple of years, with around 70,000 trees planted. We will learn how new woodland can be created without the use of plastic guards, how areas of soft rush affected the planting, tree and shrub species choice on the poor ground, how the purchase of the land and trees were funded, and the process of creating the new ponds and riparian areas.
This event is part of our series of field visits. They aim to bring people together to discuss, learn and ask questions about woodland sites in Cumbria. They are an opportunity to visit special places and to connect with others who are passionate about woodlands, forestry and trees! The events are open to all, but will be particularly useful to those working with or around trees and woodland. These visits have been funded by the National Lottery Community Fund.
Accessibility- This will be a moderate, flat walk, but paths and the site can be rough and muddy.
Dogs need to be kept on short leads as route includes crossing fields which will potentially have stock in them.
