60 Years of Award Winning Fashion in Kingston
About
A talk with Robin Hutchinson about the Community Brain’s project, ‘Celebrating 60 Years of Award Winning Fashion in Kingston’Thursday 10 September 6:30-7:30 *doors open at 6pm*
The Community Brain used the 60th anniversary of Kingston School of Art students winning the Youth Fashion Design Competition in St Gall, Switzerland to look at the remarkable story of fashion locally. In fact the fashion course, under the tutorage of the remarkable Daphne Brooker, won first prize on three separate occasions (1965, 1966, and 1970) and in doing so attracted massive attention. After the 1966 win proved ever more comprehensive than the first Mary Joyce of Drapers & Fashion Weekly pronounced: “Young British fashion designers are leading the fashion world.” By the time of their third victory in 1970, Kingston’s reputation as one of the world’s best fashion design courses had been cemented."
