Maggie Bladder-Warwick, blogger and entrepreneur, lives in the once-grand Bladder Hall, situated in a ‘rural but stately’ part of the Lake District known as Greater Cockup.
She sends yearly reports of her and her family’s achievements and successes in ‘round-robin’ letters to her enduring friends.
This year, her youngest offspring, Johnny, has had a wedding at Bladder Hall, which required some serious preparation in the week preceding the ‘biggest event in the Greater Cockup calendar’ (That is, except for the Very Famous village fete). But things, as usual don’t go as planned and Maggie has to compromise the lavish fairytale wedding for a more understated affair when it is discovered that the B-W fortune has mysteriously been spent.
Meanwhile, and in completely unrelated circumstances, Maggie’s husband Douglas is doing some organising of his own, having recently retired from the Estates Management game he spends his afternoons gardening with green-fingered and short-skirted widow Totty Grunt-Withering and engaging in amateur espionage for a mysterious Russian named Smolenski.
When their worlds collide and threaten to interfere with Maggie’s grand plans, she must think quickly and get resourceful in the only way she knows how; by making do, calling in favours from all her friends, and getting stuck in!
