Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Sport and Physical Activity
Who is the course for?
The qualification is designed for those who wish to become involved in coaching, and to have responsibility for the planning, delivery and evaluation of linked and progressive coaching sessions. It can be an entry point to coaching, depending on the ability and confidence of the learner. It is directed at learners who have an interest in coaching sport and physical activity.
What’s the value of this course?
This qualification may lead to paid or voluntary roles in coaching sport and physical activity, working as a coach possibly within a holiday play scheme or a sports club environment. The qualification is also recognised as the industry standard level 2 qualification for coaches by UK Coaching.
Learner eligibility
Prior to registration learners are required to:
•Be appropriately identified
•Be at least 14 years of age
•Be able to communicate effectively in English (this includes listening, speaking reading and writing).
Learners are required to be 18 years of age before they are able to coach independently due to insurance requirements
Assessment (if applicable)
Achievement of the qualification is normally through attendance on a course of training and assessment. Learners are required to:
•Complete written tasks contained within the 1st4sport Learner Portfolio
•Plan 4 linked and progressive sessions
•Be observed delivering 2 x 20 minute physical activity /sport sessions.
Format / duration
The course has flexible delivery model. We usually offer the level 2 certificate in coaching as a 4 day qualification. It is advised, but not essential that there is a gap in between the third and forth day to allow for learner reflection and potentially practice opportunities.
We also offer a shorted version of the course through our online learning platform.
Progression opportunities
Learners could progress on to the 1st4sport Level 3 Certificate in Coaching (Sport and Physical Activity) or on to a sport-specific coaching qualification at level 2. The skills and knowledge developed through this qualification may also be used to progress to other industry-relevant qualifications in coaching sport, activity leadership, supporting PE in school sport or sports development.
