Active Hope: Emerging Into A New World
with Margo van Greta and Jacqueline Buckingham
21st, 28th Nov, 5th & 12th Dec : 3pm-6pm UTC

This four half-day online workshop aims to strengthen our capacity to confront the current realities that can be difficult to take in and painful to live with, and to respond with active hope. Active Hope is a practice, like Tai Chi or gardening, that we do rather than have.
Developed by Joanna Macy and Chris Johnstone, Active Hope invites us to actively participate in a story that is moving towards the future we hope for.
CONTENT:
The workshop is informed by mythic journeys, modern psychology, spirituality and holistic science, it takes the form of a FOUR-PART strengthening journey, and is structured around the spiral of Joanna Macy’s Work that Reconnects.

The journey begins with GRATITUDE, a nourishing social emotion that reminds us of our allies and all that supports us. Connecting with this resource puts us in a stronger position to face the stuff that hurts.
In the second stage we HONOUR OUR PAIN for the world, acknowledging our feelings and our motivating impulses. When we feel overwhelmed or despairing, it tells us that we’ve stepped beyond what we can easily cope with alone – now we are facing something much bigger that calls for new responses and different ways of thinking.
In the third stage we explore blocking beliefs and unexamined assumptions, and find new perspectives that allow us to SEE WITH NEW EYES, increasing our sense of what's possible.
The final stage focuses on practical steps we can take as we prepare to GO FORTH. We discover tools and resources both within and outside of ourselves, identify learnable skills that help us harness the inspirational power of positive visions and find our personal role in working towards them.
The overall aim of the program is to help each participant find their own practice of Active Hope. Each time you put your unique gift into action, you strengthen yourself, inspire those around you, and take a step in support of life on Earth.
