Monthly Drum Circle Ulverston 2023
About
Join us for an informal evening of drumming and merriment, in Ulverston this July, Tuesday the 25th! If we hit another patch of glorious weather we might meet outside around the campfire at the Community Veg Garden on the edge of Ulverston (Urswick Road). I will message the day before with an update on the plan. Otherwise we will meet at the usual venue (see below).
CHANGE TO APPROACH FOR BEGINNERS: All levels of experience welcome at these sessions, however I am now inviting beginners to arrive a few minutes before the session at 7:15pm, for a brief overview of the basic drum strokes. This is to allow us to get straight on with drumming and avoid repetition for regular attendees. PLEASE LET ME KNOW if you plan to come early so I am ready for you! You might find these YouTube videos helpful too.
ABOUT THE SESSION: The sessions are focused on using the West African 'Djembe' drum but other types of drum are welcome too if you're happy to adapt the rhythm. We usually learn a multipart rhythm designed for the djembe,
before some 'freestyle' playing and maybe even a song or some skill development if time!
Bring a drum if you have one. There are plenty of drums available to borrow. Please select the option to borrow a drum on the second booking page if you'd like one. Here is a good place to go if you'd like to buy a drum: www.knockonwood.co.uk. If you'd like to try in person this Manchester shop has been recommended though worth calling to check availability in advance: http://www.johnnyroadhouse.co.uk
Numbers will be limited to 16 and we will be in a spacious well ventilated room. We will have a short tea break part way through and I aim to cater for most dietary requirements! If you'd like to offer or need a lift please get in touch and I'll see if I can help facilitate that.
BOOKING ESSENTIAL. I HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE :-)
