About

Discover the wonders of the natural world through one of our most powerful yet underutilized senses – the sense of smell.

Join us on an aromatic walk through the private land on Deepdale Farm, a guided journey through nature led by your nose and sense of smell, as we explore a wide range of local plants and essential oils. During our walks, we’ll sample a diverse array of scents present in the environment, as well as utilizing our extensive library of over 250 different essential oils to provide you with a one-of-a-kind aromatic adventure.

Have you ever strolled through a forest and realized that the scents you were inhaling were just as impactful as the sights around you? The fragrant aroma of pine needles or the fleeting scent of a delicate rose can transport you back to cherished childhood memories.

Our olfactory receptors are directly connected to the limbic system, the most ancient and primitive part of our brain responsible for processing emotions and memories. Interestingly, we have over 1,000 different types of smell receptors, compared to only four types of receptors for touch and four types of light sensors.

Aromatic plants produce volatile substances such as essential oils, green exudates, balsam, and oleoresin in various parts, including roots, wood, stems, leaves, flowers, and fruits. These essential oils come in a vast range of aromas and serve various purposes for plants. Moreover, studies have shown that these fragrant compounds offer numerous health benefits for humans, such as relieving stress and clearing the airways.

This guided walk is suitable for anyone aged 16 years and above, and no prior experience is necessary. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a paying adult. Please come prepared with clothing suitable for the weather, including layers as we may be in woodland which can be cooler under the shady trees and the walk moves at a slow pace. We recommend sturdy shoes as the terrain is uneven (walking boots ideal, but trainers adequate) and wearing trousers to avoid stinging nettles.

Maximum distance 2 miles, but likely to be shorter depending on what nature reveals.
