Multi-Colour Linocut (SOLD OUT)
About
Learn the basics of Linocut and how to design, carve, register and print an edition of 2-colour lino prints.
Course Location: Bluecoat Intaglio Print Studio
Experience Level: Beginners & people needing a refresher into the process
Duration: The course runs for one day (11:00am - 5:00) with a break for lunch
'Linocut printing involves cutting away from a block of linoleum, and inking and printing the uncut areas. When you place your carved, inked up block face down on a sheet of paper, the printed image will appear as a mirror image to how you have carved your block. Areas you have cut away will remain the white of the paper you print on.'
During this one day course you will be guided through the basics of Linocut, an enjoyable process that makes a perfect introduction to printmaking. You will learn how to transfer an image onto your lino, carve your lino blocks and create a small edition of 2-colour prints. You will also gain insight on the materials and tools used, and how you can continue the process as home.
On this course for beginners you will be guided through every step of the process from start to finish, leaving with confidence in linocut printing and having created a finished edition of prints to take home with you.
What’s Included?
All materials you will use are included in the cost of the course, but you are welcome to bring along your own if you choose. Our studios are environmentally friendly where possible and use greener methods of screen printing, such as water-based acrylic inks. Completing this course will act as an Induction to book into our Intaglio Studio should you wish to.
Do I need to prepare anything beforehand?
If you would like to prepare an image to bring with you to help with your linocut you can bring reference images or hand drawn images. You’ll be able to trace them onto your lino surface using pencil or carbon paper.
Remember: your image will print backs to what’s on the plate, so take this into account if using text & numbers.
