Stories We Tell: Nelson (SOLD OUT)
About
Stories We Tell: Nelson, will bring Nelson to life with sound, film and culture; with real stories from the people who live there.
Part of This is Nelson, which is the arts and culture strand of Nelson Town Deal, audiences will take an immersive walk through Nelson from arts company Breaking Barriers.
Audiences will listen through headphones to the memories, life events and experiences of local people, which will animate the walls and pavements of the places and spaces they call home.
Free.
The audio experience will be available through headphones provided. The sound is presented 'binaurally' which means that you'll get a 360degree sound scape. This is a guided walking tour undertaken in a group of 20. The route is mostly flat but there are some curbs and road crossings to navigate. Our guides will be wearing high-vis yellow jackets so you'll easily be able to follow them, and they will be using torches to highlight any tricky curbs or puddles. Breaking Barriers have worked closely with an Access Consultant to ensure that the route is suitable for wheelchair users and a designated Access Guide will be on hand to support individuals. The meeting spot is at Nelson Bus Station and the end location is at Macleod Street. The walk will last 35-40 minutes at a slow pace with regular breaks. We will be offering hot food (vegetarian) and a drink at the end of the route, in a local cafe. We know that the weather in February can be unpredictable so please wear comfortable footwear and dress appropriately for the weather with warm clothes and umbrellas. We will have spare umbrellas if needed.
The work is the culmination of a series of conversations and dialogue between the creators, Breaking Barriers, Lancashire County Council's Cultural Services and local communities of Nelson.
