Astronomical Fun (SOLD OUT)
About
Strap in for some Astronomical Fun with Richard and Julie at this science workshop for kids. We'll demonstrate how asteroids form, how we’ve been able to fly missions to them - in spite of their tiny size - and what we have found out from them about the early solar system. Then things get practical: we make meteors, we drop them on the surface of an ‘asteroid’ and recreate the craters we see all over the Moon. Julie helps the children make colourful cellophane Sun-catchers, like the quartz crystal effects, and paint decorative asteroid images.
And we play games and learn tricks, using both gravity, and one of the main ingredients of space: NOTHING! Space is a vacuum: but create a vacuum on Earth and you have magic tricks – some pretty amazing ones, too!
There will be three 1hr sessions during the day, starting at 10.30am, 12.30pm and 2.30pm.
Tickets are available online or on the door: £5 per child (adults and under 7s accompanying the child do not need a ticket).
