About

RSCM Enterprises, as executors of Charles Villiers Stanford’s estate, are proud to announce a unique opportunity to sing Stanford’s best known (and lesser known) works in glorious Cambridge surroundings, in the year which marks the centenary of his death. This course will focus on the wonderful inheritance of Anglican Choral music, with RSCM Director Hugh Morris as conductor.
Stanford was organ scholar at Queens' College, whose chapel will be our base. Later, he was organist of Trinity College and we will sing in the chapel as part of the weekend.  There will be services of Evensong and Holy Communion, including the glorious Stanford in A Magnificat and and Nunc Dimittis.
The RSCM holds several Stanford manuscripts - with an exclusive session to view them, along with an informative lecture on the life and works of the composer given by Stanford expert Jeremy Dibble on the Saturday evening.  On the Friday evening there will be a special, illustrated organ recital by Anthony Gritten, featuring Stanford organ works.

Who is this course for?

The course is suited to experienced, adult choral singers working at or above RSCM Silver Award level or equivalent (which expects a reasonable level of music reading and independence as a singer); and places may be limited in some voice parts to ensure a balanced choir.  Singers will be asked for a brief summary of their choral experience, on booking. It is expected that singers will have done some preparation of the materials in advance; interactive learning resources will be available through the RSCM Choral Coach app. A full set of music in a presentation, commemorative folder will be available to all participants. The course is only open to over 18’s.

There are two booking options:

1. To include overnight accommodation at Gonville & Caius College on the Friday and Saturday nights, in a single, en-suite room. This will include dinner Friday and Saturday night at Queens', lunch on Saturday also at Queens' and then breakfast Saturday/Sunday morning at Gonville College. Limited room availability, PLEASE NOTE - BOOKINGS TO INCLUDE ACCOMMODATION ONLY OPEN UNTIL 1:30PM ON MONDAY 3rd JUNE.

Cost: £495 (£420 for RSCM members) Deposit payment due upon booking. Remaining balance due no later than 8 weeks prior to event date.

2. Not including accommodation, but will include dinner on Friday and Saturday nights, as well as lunch on Saturday.
