Ensemble Pro Victoria - The English Chapel Royal to Venice
About
The English Chapel Royal to VeniceTravel 400 years back in time for a journey from England’s Chapel Royal to the cutting edge of Venetian musical innovation, with Gramophone- nominated Ensemble Pro Victoria.
Centred around great works by William Byrd (1540-1623) and Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643), and also featuring the music of Tallis, Parsons and Fayrfax, this programme explores the stark contrast between England’s refined and solemn sacred polyphony and the drama of Monteverdi’s early-Baroque ‘stile moderno’, or modern style.
Expect well-loved and recently reconstructed English gems, joyous Italian dances, madrigalian celebrations of Spring, and a rare chance to hear the almost six-foot long ‘theorbo’ or bass lute in action!
The setting for the concert will be the parish church of the village of Silverdale, beautifully situated on the shores of Morecambe Bay.
