About

Cambridge Africa is pleased to inform you that we will celebrate Cambridge-Africa Day on 18th June 2024, 9.30 am - 5.30 pm. The event is held every two years and will showcase a wide range of exciting collaborative research projects and capacity building initiatives involving Cambridge academics and postgraduate students in partnership with African colleagues. The day will present many opportunities for networking.

Programme

Our keynote speakers are Professor Refiloe Masekela and Professor Eric Danquah. Professor Masekela, Head of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health at the University of KwaZulu Natal, South Africa, is President of the Pan African Thoracic Society (PATS), the co-leader of the PATS MECOR programme, a capacity strengthening initiative for respiratory health research training. She is the first African woman to hold the prestigious NIHR Global Health Professorship.

Professor Danquah is Professor of Plant Molecular Genetics, University of Ghana, Director of the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI) and recipient of the 2022 Africa Food Prize. WACCI trains plant breeders from across Africa to improve African crops in local environments. WACCI is one of the largest Institutions in Africa for PhD education in plant breeding and aims to be the foremost Centre for post-graduate research in crop improvement in Africa.
