De-escalating challenging behaviour
About
This session offers a simple technique you can use when someone comes to you with a serious accusation of challenging behaviour such as bullying, harassment, racial abuse, etc. AND the person’s emotions are very elevated. When people feel threatened by others’ behaviours it can cause conflict. However, what might feel ‘threatening’ or ‘insulting’ or ‘racist’ to one person might not be for another. In school, you may often find yourself navigating different perceptions of an event, some of which could be serious and require further action. How can you find out what has happened, whether an event is serious (falling under school policy on bullying or equality, for example) AND bring down the intensity of people’s emotions such that they feel heard and safe?
This one-hour session is also an opportunity for participants to share their own skills and best practices. The price of this training session is subsidised by CRESST (from charitable trusts and donations).
