This is the first of a series of Stigma Shorts following on from our Stigma Seminar.It will take place on Friday the 21st of June 2024
1pm – 2.15pm.

We are now focusing on just one speaker or topic per session making it more accessible on the day as well as to watch back after.
Our first short is with Austin Smith, SDF’s Head of Policy, Practice and Communication.
SFAD have always enjoyed a great working relationship with SDF and when we work with families and communities, we often refer to ‘Moving Beyond People first language’ which Austin worked on. Other areas of focus during the session will be:
• What role does stigma play in society?
• What role does stigma play in public health?
• What role does stigma play in people’s lives?
• What are we trying to destigmatise?
• Have we stigmatised the very thing we are trying to promote – treatment and recovery?
• How do we avoid unintended consequences?
