CISC Creative Music Hub Meeting 2 (CANCELLED)

Join us on Monday 10 February 1-4pm at Notre Dame School, Cobham for this in-person event.

Join guest speaker, Mahaliah Edwards, as we incorporate diverse traditions into classroom/instrumental practice as an entry point for globalising/diversifying/decolonising repertoire and curriculum.

Tickets are £30.00 and include lunch, refreshments and workshops.

Session Description

The 90 mins session will serve as an introduction to starting your own exploration of socially just approaches to music education practice including looking at curriculum framing, repertoire from diverse traditions and terminology. The aim is to have an open-minded, curious and encouraging atmosphere in which we will move from the conceptual to the practical, making it relevant and achievable for each delegate and their individual teaching context and environment. Remember to bring your preferred voice or instrument as the session will culminate in music-making. Centering music in the classroom and instrumental lessons, a range of activities include:

  • Introduction to Mahaliah, her background/lived experience and professional work

  • Broader discussion around issues, challenges, fears in diversifying repertoire.

  • Signposting and critiquing resources from KS1 - KS4.

  • Discussion, reflection and sharing of good practice.

  • Practical exploration of some music with singing and instruments.
