About
Free Masterclasses for students in Years 5 and 6 led by the amazing teachers from Bootham School. Whilst students are doing the masterclasses, parents can enjoy refreshments, have a tour of the School or head off into York. There is parking on site.
You are welcome to arrive from 16:15 and enjoy refreshments and treats in the hall. The workshops will start at 16:30 and end at 18:00. Children will then be collected from the hall at the end of their workshop.

Psychology: Your magical mind - Do you see what I see?
Learn about your magical mind through the study of illusions and mind magic. Find out what Psychology is and whether you might want to become a psychologist yourself when you grow up - there are lots of different types of psychologist, which might surprise you! This is going to be a fun, inspiring and interactive session to really get you thinking.
Peacejam: Inside the Prime Minister’s briefcase …
Spend an hour with the Prime Minister. Or his desk, to be precise.
Pick a problem from his Top Secret files and work as a team to devise an effective solution that is peace-centred and really exciting. Work to a budget, debate ideas, create some publicity and then put your bill to a vote at our very own House of Commons.
Watch out for an emergency or crisis along the way!
Vile Villains
Heroes watch out! Join this session and you will look at how writers have created some of the vilest, meanest and most dastardly villains in literature. You will then be guided to use some of their techniques to create a villain of your own, in a literary style of your choice - for example: graphic fiction, dystopian fiction or an epic tale. You decide!
From Science to Sky: An Introduction to Flight
In this immersive session, pupils take on the role of trainee pilots as they discover how aircraft fly. Through engaging explanation and demonstrations, they explore the forces that keep planes in the air before seeing these ideas brought to life on the school’s flight simulators. Guided by staff, pupils experience the excitement of flying a virtual aircraft and gain a memorable insight into how science, skill and confidence come together through the school’s Flight Club.
