UTTERLY RUTTERLY! Presented by New Sussex Singers
About
To celebrate composer Sir John Rutter's 80th Birthday this year, NEW SUSSEX SINGERS present their summer concert featuring Rutter's 'Birthday Madrigals', written for the birthday of his friend, the great jazz pianist George Shearing. These contemporary madrigal settings are paired with 'Songs & Sonnets', Shearing's much loved jazzy settings of Shakespearean texts. There'll be excerpts from British composer Iain Farrington’s wildly upbeat Jazz Cantata 'Then Sing We All', celebrating the joy of singing together. Alongside other Rutter favourites, we’ll showcase his talents as an arranger with his setting of Hoagy Carmichael’s 'Skylark', a standard of the golden age of American song, and his unpublished setting of Henry Mancini’s 'Moon River'.
Enjoy a drink from the bar and some pre-concert jazz from the Trio who'll accompany the choir throughout the evening.
