Prediction Under Intervention & Role in Primary Prevention
About
Hybrid Seminar by Dr Matthew Sperrin, University of Manchester - ‘Prediction under intervention and its role in primary prevention’. Hosted by the Centre of Digital Innovations in Health & Social Care (CDIHSC).Event details:
AI, statistics, and machine learning are increasingly applied in healthcare, particularly in primary prevention, where clinical prediction models (CPMs) assess the future risk of long-term conditions like cardiovascular disease. However, most CPMs are not causally-aware, meaning they can't predict risk under specific interventions. Prediction-under-intervention models, which combine prediction and causal inference, are emerging as a better alternative.
Matt will describe some of the key ideas of prediction-under-intervention, present early work on CHARIOT—a model designed to answer such questions—and describe unanswered research challenges in this space.
