Exploring Temperate Rainforests in Wild Ennerdale
We’re excited to announce an upcoming training opportunity led by Gareth Browing (Forestry England) and Angus Walsh (Cumbria Woodlands), focusing on the restoration of temperate rainforests in Wild Ennerdale.
Wild Ennerdale is a long-term partnership between the National Trust, Forestry England, United Utilities, and Natural England, working together for over 20 years to restore the valley’s natural landscapes. Within the valley, two areas of rare and threatened temperate rainforest are thriving—offering a unique glimpse into this special habitat.
During the training, participants will explore the process of converting coniferous plantations into native or mixed woodlands, with the potential for these areas to develop into new rainforests. The course will also provide an opportunity to study the existing rainforest, observing the rich diversity of bryophytes, lichens, and ferns that characterize these environments.
This is a fantastic chance to learn about woodland restoration from leading experts while experiencing one of the UK’s most remarkable natural landscapes
Accessibility- The terrain involves narrow paths and rough terrain walking throught the woodland,. Dogs on leads are acceptable.
