Orchestral Suite from The Fairy Queen
The story of Dido and Aeneas, adapted and streamlined from Virgil’s Aeneid Book IV, tells of the love between the Trojan hero Aeneas and the recently widowed Queen of Carthage, Dido, and of her subsequent suicide after Aeneas is tricked into leaving her to fulfil his destiny as founder of Rome.
