Strawberries and Villas: Mid-Victorian Ashton-on-Ribble
About
At the heart of Ashton-on-Ribble lies a distinctive Victorian housing estate, created in 1859 by a freehold land society just outside Preston’s boundary. This talk will explore how local shopkeepers, builders, and tradesmen united to buy land and, often, build homes. Sue will examine the society’s origins, its role in suburban development, and the unconventional—sometimes illegal—practices that shaped the Ashton Freehold estate into what it is today. An illustrated talk by Sue Latimer.
