Plague and Hunger: Mortality in Preston area 1590 - 1650 (SOLD OUT)
About
In the popular histories of the 17th Century, the Great Plague of London 1665 gets all the attention, but it was only one episode in a century with numerous outbreaks, and few towns emerged unscathed. Preston suffered a devastating epidemic of plague in 1630-31, with high mortality. But this was only the most notorious of these terrible killers. Other epidemic diseases were frequent, along with famine. This talk will examine how Lancashire suffered during mortality crises, since the reign of Elizabeth to the Commonwealth period. An illustrated talk by Dr. Alan Crosby.
