Choral Day with Gareth Malone: Handel's Zadok the Priest

About
Join TV choirmaster Gareth Malone for a day of choral music, learning and performing Handel’s coronation anthem Zadok the Priest.
This is a unique opportunity to spend a whole day under the guidance of expert choirmaster and star of stage and screen, Gareth Malone, learning one of the most iconic choral pieces of all time which has been performed at the coronation of every British monarch since its composition in 1727.
The day culminates in a performance of Zadok the Priest in Winchester College’s New Hall, accompanied by the Virtuoso International Music Academy String Orchestra.
We’ll spend time on physicality, vocal technique, ensemble, listening, engaging with text and performance skills.
There’ll be a performance of the iconic anthem: Zadok the Priest by Handel with string orchestra as part of the VIMA concert at the end of the day.
During the workshop we’ll explore other works including:
- Cantique de Jean Racine - Gabriel Faure
- Seal Lullaby - Eric Whitacre
- Ave Verum by Byrd
- Sing to the Moon - Laura Mvula (Hal Leonard)
The day starts at 9am with mid morning refreshments provided. We invite you to venture into Winchester town for lunch, returning in the afternoon for one more rehearsal before the concert performance in New Hall at 3.30pm.
Music for Zadok the Priest will be sent to you in advance. You will need to be able to read music to take part but do not need to be vocally trained for this event.
Places include 2x free tickets to the concert.
Please note that all U18s must be accompanied by an adult.
