Karen Darke MBE - Everest Base Camp Lecture - 19 June 2025

About
We are thrilled to be welcoming Karen Darke MBE to St Leonards for an inspiring evening talk about her expedition to Everest Base Camp. Guests joining Karen include St Leonards teacher Vicky Sherwood, who accompanied Karen to Nepal.Karen began handcycling at the age of 21, after a climbing accident left her paralysed from the chest down. A former runner and climber, she has never allowed her injury to define her adventurous spirit. She won a silver medal at the London 2012 Paralympic Games and a gold medal at Rio 2016.
Karen was awarded an MBE in 2017 for services to sport. Her remarkable achievements extend beyond sport – she holds a PhD in Geology, two MAs, and diplomas in counselling, hypnotherapy and motivational coaching.
Join us for what promises to be an uplifting and inspiring evening. Tickets are free, however, a donation on the night would be much appreciated. All donations will go towards a Nepalese Charity, supported by the schools expedition in October.
