1st4Sport Level 1 Award in Assistant Coaching (Sport & PA)

This qualification focuses on the skills and competences required to be able to assist the delivery of sports or physical activity coaching sessions under the direct supervision of a more qualified coach
Who is the course for?
The qualification is designed for those who wish to become involved in coaching at an assistant level, and to have responsibility for the delivery of coaching activities under the direct supervision of a more qualified coach.
It is an entry point to coaching, depending on the ability and confidence of the learner. It is directed at learners who have an interest in sport or physical activity
What’s the value of this course?
This qualification is ideal for learners who are seeking an entry point to coaching and are looking at supporting a more qualified coach.
The qualification is recognised as the industry standard level 1 qualification for coaching assistants by UK Coaching. It is also endorsed by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA).
Learner eligibility
Prior to registration learners are required to:
•Be appropriately identified
•Be at least 14 years of age
•Be able to communicate effectively in English (this includes listening, speaking reading and writing).
Assessment (if applicable)
Achievement of the qualification is normally through attendance on a course of training and assessment. Learners are required to:
- complete written tasks contained within the 1st4sport Learner Portfolio
- plan 4 linked and progressive sessions
- be observed delivering a minimum of a 15 minute physical activity /sport session which is pre-planned.
Format / duration
The course has flexible delivery model. We usually offer the level 1 award as a 2 day qualification. We also offer a shorted version of the course through our online learning platform.
Progression opportunities
Learners could progress on to the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching (Sport and Physical Activity) or on to a sport-specific coaching qualification at level 1 or at level 2. The skills and knowledge developed through this qualification may also be used to progress to other industry-relevant qualifications in coaching sport, activity leadership, or sports development..
