safeTALK Suicide Prevention Training with Advance Brighter Futures

Before booking, please read the ADDITIONAL INFORMATION at the bottom of this page.

What is safeTALK?

safeTALK is a training that equips people to be more alert to someone thinking of suicide and better able to connect them with further help. Using a simple yet effective model, safeTALK empowers everyone to make a difference. With over 120,000 people attending each year worldwide, it’s the world’s fastest-growing suicide prevention skills training course.

How does safeTALK work?

Most people with thoughts of suicide don’t want to die - instead, they are looking for a way to work through the pain in their lives. Through their words and actions, they usually invite others to help them in making a choice for life. safeTALK teaches participants to recognise these invitations, engage with the person with thoughts of suicide, and connect them with resources to help them be safer from suicide. These resources could include health care professionals, first responders, or crisis line workers—among many others who have suicide intervention training.

What will you get out of attending safeTALK?

safeTALK helps participants become alert to suicide. Suicide-alert people are better prepared to connect persons with thoughts of suicide with life-affirming help. You will learn how to reach out to someone thinking about suicide and help them keep safe by promptly connecting them to further support.

Over the course of the training, you will learn to:

  • Notice and respond to situations where suicide thoughts may be present
  • Recognise that invitations for help are often overlooked
  • Move beyond the common tendency to miss, dismiss, and avoid suicide
  • Apply the TALK steps: Tell, Ask, Listen, KeepSafe
  • Know community resources and how to connect someone with thoughts of suicide to them for further suicide-safer help

Who are Advance Brighter Futures (ABF)?

We’re a small, community-based mental health and wellbeing charity. Founded in 1992, we support hundreds of people each year in Wrexham and surrounding areas with their mental health and wellbeing.

We provide specialist mental health services to hundreds of people every year who are experiencing mental health difficulties, from low level interventions to supporting those experiencing severe and enduring mental illness.

We're a safe space for anyone experiencing poor mental health, offering a mixture of one-to-one services - such as lifestyle coaching and counselling – along with wellbeing group activities, self-advocacy workshops, and parent support groups. We also deliver life-saving training such as Mental Health First Aid and suicide prevention training.

We’ve got 32 years of experience under our belt of supporting the local community. We pride ourselves on being a caring organisation and we’re passionate about what we do. We show genuine care, helping people to work through what’s important to them, and supporting them to live a more fulfilled life and find hope for a brighter future.
