Vocalis, Harrogate’s popular chamber choir and their Musical Director James Savage-Hanford warmly invite you to their autumn concert. James has paired Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem with Frank Martin’s Mass for Double Choir. The evening will also include the lyrical 1st movement of Antonin Dvořák’s Piano Quintet in A Major, Op 81.Of the many settings of the Requiem, the Fauré Requiem is probably the most widely loved. It is impossible not to be moved by the comforting beauty of this humble masterpiece. The Requiem will be accompanied by the Dales Ensemble and Tim Harper, Assistant Musical Director of Ripon Cathedral.
Since its first performance in 1963 the reputation of Martin’s Mass has grown. Now recognised as a masterpiece of unaccompanied choral music, it is a popular and beautiful work.
We are delighted that the Dales Ensemble and Tim Harper will perform the 1st movement of Dvořák's Piano Quintet in A Major, Op 81.
