Join us online or join us in person for a special event at Halton Mill, Halton, near Lancaster UK.
A musical extravaganza that grew out of one woman's musical journey around the Americas.

You can look forward to performances beamed into your living room or beamed onto our screen at Halton Mill near Lancaster UK  from:

  • Mary Beth Carty, Nova Scotia Canadian Traditional Folk Singer of the Year 2024 
  • Carmen Guérard, one-row accordion virtuoso from Montreal, with Quebecoise traditional singer & guitarist Monique Jutras - expect jig-dolls, percussive accompaniment, and maybe more surprise guests.    
  • Cacuriá Balaio das Rosas, colourful Afro-Brazilian dance group from São Luís, Brazil,  
  • Gilles Losier and the Famille Leblanc - virtuoso 89 year old pianist and violin player, along with a fabulous father/daughters multi-instrumental musical family - guardians of the New Brunswick Acadian tradition, 
  • Yene Velt - Montreal based trad Klezmer ensemble with fiddles and Tsimbl

Brazilian drumming with local Samba band Samba Batala 
Lancaster's Capoeira Angola Ogum - a martial art originally developed by enslaved Africans in Brazil, mixing acrobatics, dance and strength.
Music from Brazilian artist, capoeirista and singer Artur Soar

Art exhibition: Hannah Frank and Artur Soar - an artistic dialogue between Scotland and Brazil
 
In  the afternoon - a FREE Capoeira and Afro Brazilian dance workshop
 
And, to keep you going - a gourmet veggie/vegan Brazilian Buffet menu supplied by TOGS, the outside catering arm of The Old Gun Shop, the fabulous people who used to be known as Lancaster's Herbarium. (full menu below). 
 
'In person' tickets, £20 (low waged/student £10)
'On line' tickets £15 (low waged/student £5)
Gourmet Brazilian Veggie/Vegan Buffet, 6 p.m. £15 standard/£25 supporter /£5 community/low waged/student) 
 
 
A quarter of all ticket income goes to support three Amazonian projects: 
  • The Dom Phillips Institute -  running training programmes for young Indigenous leaders and raising awareness across Brazil about the importance of protecting the Amazon.   
  • AltasBatalha, a rap collective empowering young people in Altamira, Pará 
  • An educational project taking musical instruments out to remote Indigenous villages near Tefe, Amazonas.  

    6 p.m. at Halton Mill (arrive 5.45 to get seated): GOURMET BRAZILIAN BUFFET MENU. We want this to be a real community Brazilian feast.  So please pay the price that works for you for the buffet:  £15 (standard price), £25 (supporting price), £5 (community price).  Pay separately in the ticketing section
      
    MAINS 
  • Vegetarian Feijoada
  • Black bean stew with roasted peppers, courgette, carrots, onions, garlic and a smoky seasoning. Served with farofa (toasted cassava flour mix) on the side.
  • Moqueca de Palmito (Palm Heart & Coconut Stew)
    Creamy coconut, tomatoes, peppers and palm hearts with coriander and lime. Served with rice.
  • Pão de Queijo (Cheese Bread)

    EXTRAS
  • Coxinha de Palmito
    Teardrop croquettes filled with palm hearts, cream cheese and herbs.

  • Pastéis de Queijo e Veggie
    Crispy pastry pockets filled with cheese, spinach, and sweetcorn.

  • Cassava Fries (Mandioca Frita)
    Golden fried cassava sticks with lime and chilli salt.

  • Salada de Feijão Fradinho
    Black-eyed bean salad with peppers, red onion, parsley and olive oil.

  • Grilled Pineapple with Cinnamon Sugar
    Served warm as a sweet, refreshing bite.

    SOMETHING SWEET

  • Brigadeiros (Traditional Brazilian chocolate fudge truffles

  • Bolo de Fubá (Brazilian Cornmeal Cake, delicately flavoured with fennel seed and a touch of coconut.)
