Q&A on Local Government Reform
About
The proposed local government reform is one of the most significant changes to local governance in Lancashire in decades.
Local government teform will fundamentally reshape the way services are delivered across the county including in the Lancaster District. This is an important opportunity to understand the proposals and consider what they mean for our communities, our services, and the voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise sector.
We are pleased to be joined by Mark Davies, Chief Executive of Lancaster City Council, who will provide an update on the reform agenda and answer your questions.
Lancashire is currently undergoing a Local Government Reform agenda driven by central government, focused on replacing the current two-tier system (county and district councils) with a smaller number of unitary authorities.
For the Lancaster district, this means we may join a new unitary authority with either Blackpool or Preston, creating larger combined authorities with populations around 500,000.
This Q&A session is your chance to:
- Understand how the proposals are shaping up
- Ask questions about how local services will be affected
- Explore the role of the VCSE sector in future governance and service delivery
- Share concerns and perspectives from your community
We encourage you to attend and be part of the conversation. This is a vital moment for shaping how our communities are represented and supported in the years ahead.
Before reserving your spot, please ensure you’re able to attend, as places are limited and in high demand. We operate a waiting list, so if you’re no longer able to join us after booking, please let us know as soon as possible so we can offer your place to someone on the reserve list.
