Autumn Campfire Gathering

About

The Autumn is upon us, a season of colour and transformation! What better way to celebrate than to gather round the campfire to share stories and songs! Join us at 3:30pm on Sunday the 26th of October, on the wild edges of Ulverston to stoke the fires, inside and out...

Why?

Human beings have been gathering round fires since we learnt to harness it (maybe 2 million years ago according to wikipedia). It was key to our evolution, as a source of warmth and lighting, protection from predators, a way to create more advanced hunting tools, and to cook our food. It’s deep in our DNA and recent studies are now showing the relaxing effects it has on our psyches. Combine that with the connecting and mood boosting effects of group singing and music making and you get pretty powerful combo!

Planet Earth feels very unsettled right now, and Playful Nature believes in the power of coming together, in community, with nature, to beat the blues of this crazy modern world, and round a fire is our favourite way of doing it. We would love to kindle a community of playful folk who meet occasionally throughout the year, to celebrate the seasons and connect to what truly matters.

What shall I bring

  • A song, poem or story, or just a willingness to join in with others offerings.

  • A musical instrument if you have one – drums welcome, we can get some drumming going if there are a few of us! There will be a few percussion instruments to borrow.

  • Another kind of offering – if songs and poem are not your thing e.g. some tasty treats to share, logs for the fire, helping hands for pack down.

  • Bring a drink. There will also be a kettle and teas available, but there is limited drinking water on site.

  • A torch of some kind – Sunset is at 4:52pm so it will be dark when we finish.

Where do I find you?

We will meet at the community veg garden on Urswick Road, Ulverston. There is a campfire circle and a cosy wooden cabin for use in case of bad weather (we will substitute campfire for atmospheric candlelight!)

What if I don’t know anyone?

You won’t be a stranger for long – we want this to be a friendly welcoming space to join solo or with friends. If you’d like us to put a shout out to buddy up with someone let us know!

Booking and costs

The tickets for this event are just £5, to cover costs, admin and promotion. The intention is that we all contribute to the evening in some way. Please let us know if you want to help out on the practical side of things! Booking essential and numbers strictly limited due to the size of the space.

See you round the fire!

ABOUT YOUR HOST

Amy is an experienced environmental and creative facilitator, musician and songwriter. Through ‘Playful Nature’ she supports people to connect with their instinctive, playful selves, with each other, and the living earth… to nurture health and happiness and bring a sense of wholeness and presence to our lives. Amy has been delighting in making music for years – in drum circles, singing groups, writing songs and playing in bands. She is passionate about supporting others to sing from the soul, enjoy their voice, and unleash the creative life force that flows through us all, even if it feels deeply buried! Here's what people have said about Amy's work:

“We loved your solstice sing in the woods. You are such a lovely gentle facilitator, blending collaborative fun and meaningful ritual beautifully. We need more of that in our lives!”

“Beautifully held, fun, relaxing, funny”

“Expressive, liberating”

“I felt very safe. You are so good at creating safety through your acceptance of all folks and contributions”

“Thank you for such a beautiful evening! I had been getting kinda nervous about it and singing in front of others but you made us feel at ease so quickly and the songs were lovely and easy to work with. There was such a great energy there this evening and I left feeling so much better than when I arrived - calm content and energised!”
