Michael Livingston OBE
'From Whitecraigs to Westminster'
Glasgow born Michael grew up in Whitecraigs. An enthusiastic JLGB member and leader, he also briefly represented our community as a Member of the Scottish Youth Parliament.
After studying in Leeds, with a placement year in the US Congress and in Parliament, Michael became a civil servant and has worked in a number of Civil Service roles from Ofsted, to the Prime Minister’s Office, from national security, to combating youth violence and from being at the centre of the nation’s pandemic response to now being responsible for overseeing major sporting events and grassroots sport facilities investment for the Department of Culture, Media and Sport.
Michael’s communal roles have included being a trustee of JLGB, as well as a Board member of Mitzvah Day and, briefly, the UJIA.
Michael also pioneered a network to ensure that Holocaust Memorial Day is now commemorated in every government department and in the New Year 2025 Honours, the King recognised Michael with an OBE for Holocaust education and public service.
