Young Children’s Mental Health: Lockdown and Recovery
- How do you find the right words when big, grown-up things happen to little people?
- What can you do when distraction and fun just don’t seem to be enough to help little ones feel content and able to relax after scary or sad events in their lives?
- Why does it feel so hard for us when little ones we care for, and care about, are struggling - and how does that make it hard for us to know how to respond?
Leah and Laura are clinical psychologists with extensive experience of supporting recovery in very young children. We would like to welcome you to this time to think about what we have all been through over the past two years, old and young.
They will share what really matters when it comes to emotional wellbeing in little children. You will be encouraged to consider the skills you already have and use with older children and adults and how the same skills can also work with our youngest children.
We will speak in plain language and offer practical examples of approaches that work to promote good mental health with young children, even when times are hard.
We hope to leave you with a clear sense of the important messages you can send the little children in your life, and simple ways you can help them feel seen, heard, and understood, just from the time they spend with you.
