Workforce Diversity: Training and Employing Disabled People

Workforce Diversity: Training and Employing Disabled People

hero

Working within the leisure sector often involves working with a diverse range of people. Currently, disabled people are under-represented across all aspects of the leisure industry, and there are clear indications that disabled people are vastly under-represented in the fitness and leisure workforce. Disabled people represent a talent pool of potential staff, who can bring a unique perspective to the workforce, which can benefit customers, staff and the organisation.

This workshop has been designed to help organisations implement the guidance provided within the new Aspire EmployAbility Leisure Guides. The aim of the session is to give individuals working within the sector the confidence and skills to create an inclusive approach within their workplace to give disabled people access to training and employment within the sector. The content of the workshop will draw upon Guide B for training providers and awarding organisation and Guide C for employers.

By the end of the workshop, delegates will be able to:

  • Persuade their colleagues of the benefits and importance of creating an inclusive approach for disabled people in training and employment in the leisure sector.
  • Identify and understand the challenges disabled people face in accessing training and employment in the leisure sector.
  • Consider their own workplace, practice and culture compared with the principles and factors of an inclusive culture.
  • Explore potential solutions (supported by the Guides) and devise 3 actions for change.

Eligibility:

Delegate must be:

  • Familiar with the Guidance (available at www.InstructAbility.org.uk)
  • In a senior position and/or with influence to create change within their organisation.
  • Able to confirm they have their CEO’s support to reviewing and implementing new guidance.
  • A current employee within the leisure industry
  • Able to communicate effectively in English
