JAGS Parent Talk: Amy Forbes-Robertson
Relationships, sex and health education (RSHE)
Amy Forbes-Robertson (BA MPhil PGCE QTS) is a qualified teacher, a published author and Founding Director of It Happens Education. Amy leads on the consultancy work for programmes, resources and projects with organisations such as Channel 4, BBC Teach, Operation Ouch & The University of Westminster.
In 2015, Amy stepped out of the classroom and joined Alexandra Fryer, delivering RSHE in schools. Since then she has devoted her full-time working career to the subject.
Amy is consistently amazed by brilliant young people and their worlds. She is empathic and intrinsically understands the complexity of lives lived between family, friends, home & school-settings. Amy has been closely involved in pastoral care and safeguarding issues and is familiar with the challenges that face young people as they experiment with their own friendships, relationships and identities in our complex culture. Amy believes that everyone deserves a safe and judgement-free space to talk about some of the trickier Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) topics history has handed us.
During her talk Amy will focus on the new statutory guidance for teaching about relationships and sex. The session will look at potential protective factors and where to get reliable, evidence-based information and help if needed:
- Contextualising RSHE and the school
- Looking at current UK data on sex and relationships
- Introduction to Statutory RSHE
- Positive and protective RSHE
- The challenges
- Q&A and signposting
