Those who either witnessed or sang in Wimbledon Choral's performance of Will Todd's wonderful Mass in Blue in June 2011 will recall the fun, excitement and joy of singing that work. Jazz and choral can and does work together really well. Will Todd (left) is a master at weaving these things together whilst retaining a suitable level of reverence as needed.
Using the same concept and working with the same composer, the final part of Wimbledon Choral's triptych of passions programme this season features Will's Passion Music and Jazz Missa Brevis, and the choir is really excited to be working with Will (at the piano) and his band for this performance.
The text for the Jazz Missa Brevis is taken from the Christian Latin Mass settings and, reminiscent in some ways to the Mass in Blue, uses a mix of jazz styles in this relatively short piece - ranging from a swinging waltz to a Latin groove.
The Passion Music follows the same music fusion base but follows more of the Passion story by highlighting particular parts of it. It opens with a version of Greater Love Has No Man and ends with the movement Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Tickets at reduced rates are available for anyone in full-time education.
