"This Evil Thing"
This acclaimed solo play tells the compelling and inspiring story of Britain’s WW1 conscientious objectors.
January 1916: Bert Brocklesby is a schoolteacher and preacher at his Methodist chapel; Bertrand Russell is one of the greatest philosophers of his time. With the advent of military conscription their worlds are about to be turned upside down.
THIS EVIL THING, which has now played for over a 100 performances to all parts of the UK,
as well as 17 performances to historic peace churches in the USA, comes to Bristol again on Easter Sunday - 100 years after the first C.O.s were released from prison.
‘Magnificent storytelling’ (Amnesty International)
'The CO’s story is still a tale rarely told, and rarely presented with this level of wisdom, perception, compassion and balance… ‘This Evil Thing’ represents the great tradition of storytelling at its very best, and offers an up-close-and-personal insight into the human condition, for better or worse.'
November 2018 The Bath Magazine – Melissa Blease

A Q & A session will follow the second performance.
